Our Pricing Philosophy

We feel that we have achieved the optimal pricing model for both professionals and hiring companies.  At iPendence, we don't take a percentage and we don't have exorbitant posting fees.  In fact, it is possible to use iPendence for free whether you are a contractor or a hiring company.  We allow companies to post projects for free and contractors to express interest in the hiring companies for free.  Please take a look at the following price chart.

All items are in US dollars.

If you notice contractors and hiring companies can choose to pay a fee or try to pass the costs to the other party.  Let's run through a couple of examples.

Example 1.  A Company Posts a Project for Free.

When a company posts a project for free, contractors have the right to do one of two things:

  1. pay a $3 fee to post his profile to the company, or
  2. for free, express interest and post only his title, with no profile or contact information.

If a professional chooses to express interest for free, no contact information is sent to the hiring company, and the hiring company must choose to pay a $10 fee to get his contact information. The professional who pays the $3 fee will have the advantage, because he will receive the contact information of the hiring company and will be able to contact the hiring company directly.

The advantage to the hiring company with  this example is that the hiring company can post for free, if professionals choose to pay their posting fees.  In addition, the hiring company will only receive serious inquiries, because less serious individuals will not be willing to post the small fee.  Since any individual may purchase the company contact information, there is less control over to whom company contact information is given.

Example 2. A Company Pays to Posts a Project

When a company pays to posts a project, they receive the profile and contact information of anyone who expresses interest in the project, and are free to make an offer to any of these individuals. If a company wants to receive the maximum number of inquiries and see the profiles of all interested individuals then they should choose this option, because it could be more cost effective than paying to see the contact information of some of the professionals who expresses interest.  Another advantage of paying is that the contractor will know that the hiring company is serious about hiring, and not just doing a feasibility study.  This option also guards the company contact information.

The Flaws With Other Pricing Models

Many sites that allow companies to post projects have receive revenue from a large posting fee on the order of $100 to $200 dollars, which serves as a barrier to the posting of projects.  In addition, a posting fee makes many smaller projects const ineffective.  For example if a company has a project that would cost it $50, it is not going to post it for a $100 fee. At iPendence we allow companies to post projects of any size for free or pay a small price which will be described later.

The second billing model that you have probably seen is companies that try to take a fixed percentage of your hard earned money.  This approach can be even more costly than the previous approach.  For medium or large projects you can pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to these middle men.  Many of these sites allow hiring companies to post an RFP (request for Proposal) and then allow contractors to bid on the projects. These companies are trying to model their pricing scheme after the very successful ebay. However, the purchasing of an independent contractor's time is not as simple as buying a limited edition Beanie Baby.  You will find that most company's project descriptions consist of only a few lines, and they often do not know the best solution or the time that it will actually take.  As a result it is nearly impossible to give a fair bid on these projects, without substantial negotiations and a fixed contract.
